2014 World Champion (Time Trial); silver medal in Road Race
MEMORABLE EMOTIONAL MOMENT
Winning my first gold medal at a major international competition: the UCI Paracycling Road World Cup in Segovia, Spain, 2014. It felt amazing to have finally “done it”, and made me realize that all that hard, hard work really does pay off!
WHY YOU LOVE SPORT
I grew up athletic – I was an able-bodied nordic ski racer from the age of 5, and fell in love with bike racing at age 14. When I became disabled at age 17, I thought I would have to give up my dream to be a pro cyclist. Fortunately, handcycles were invented about ten years after my accident, and so I have, many years later, been able to realize my dream to be a professional athlete, though in a brand new form. I love the positive energy I get from pushing my physical and mental limits, and the growth and resilience that comes from doing this, every day.
WHY FAST AND FEMALE
I relate strongly to women in sport, and have been inspired by certain female champions. I want to be a part of something that encourages women and girls to participate in sport and reap its rewards of fun, health, and camaraderie.
