October 18, 2007 - Fast and Female's Perianne Jones went out training with her local Nakkertok crew in Ottawa this week. It turns out not only is rollerskiing extremely cool, it's also a great way to scope out longboarders with fantastic bods. Oh, um... I mean... focus on technique... and stuff, yeah. Anyway, Peri suggests we add some longboarding to F+F Ottawa this May! Finally two extreme sports carried out on unforgiving pavement without the use of breaks can be united (in case you don't already have enough road rash!) -CC ... check out the photo here ...

Magi can get you in touch with any of your instructors that you may have questions for... we love to hear from you!

Here is an article Tara Whitten and I wrote in December of 2003 (click here). The ideas in there are solid and I used all of them to win the Olympics. The video of the Olympic Sprint can be watched at www.chandracrawford.ca and it really illustrates the tricks in this article, especially the freeskate.

CHANDRA'S DAY REPORT AND SOME PICTURES

February 3, 2007 - Fast and Female Eve - On Friday I talked to various media all day which resulted in me being really, really wound up about Fast and Female. By the time I got to meet 5 of our Provincial Ambassadors at a pizza party with their Canmore host families, I was pretty much busting. The pizza party was fun, and the girls who travelled all day to get here are really stellar. Can't wait til tomorrow!

February 3, 2007 - Fast and Female in The Toronto Star Newspaper today - check out the story - http://www.thestar.com/article/177458

February 2, 2007 - Sara Renner gave birth to a healthy, beautiful 7lb girl at 11:30am on February 1st, 2007 at the Banff Hospital. A huge CONGRATS to Sara and her husband, alpine ski legend Thomas Grandi, and best of luck with their newborn "Aria."

January 29, 2007 - Yo Yo Yo Fast Females... It was an exciting weekend here in Canmore with young buck Brittany Webster from Duntroon, Ontario, age 19, absolutely rocking house and winning both races at the World Championship distance trials. She will likely decline her spot on the 2007 World Champs team to prepare for the World Juniors, which have been re-scheduled for mid-March. The energetic and fit girl with a big smile is a relative new-comer to the sport of x-c skiing, but is putting her extensive running background to good use and we wish her all the best with the rest of her season.

F+F instructors Dasha Gaiazova and Tasha Betcherman also put in some
great performances, and we will eagerly await the official press release to find out whether they'll be selected to attend the World Champs in Sapporo, Japan. They both skied well and would be great representatives of our sport and country at the big event which starts Feb 22nd with a classic sprint.

In the Fast and Female good news department, national team members Perianne Jones and Amanda Ammar will be coming to the event this weekend. In the original plan for a normal winter with snow in Europe, they were going to be racing at the World Junior/U23's and miss this year's event. Although we're bummed to hear that their winter is being screwed up by the crazy heat in Europe this winter, we're extremely glad to have them joining us at Fast and Female!
Here's a picture of Peri modeling the Official Fast and Female Buff... and another way... how versatile!

January 27, 2007 - The Bow Corridor Regional Race information is now online at www.bcrr.ca, including start times and registration information. Online registration will only be accepted until noon on February 2. PLEASE pre-register for this event! If you are having problems with the online registration, call Susan Sayers at 1-877-226-7726 ext. 110 (toll free) and she'll walk you through it.

January 26, 2007 - Have you ever wondered how Fast and Female can afford to offer such a sweet experience to 80 girls from across Canada? It's mostly because of the AWESOME sponsors of the event (check out the sponsors tab on the menu bar). Private cash donations are also heavily relied upon - big and small. If you are interested in investing in Fast and Female, please click here for more information on how you can receive a tax receipt for your donation.

January 24, 2007 - Are you registered yet? We've heard that so far only 35 Fast and Female participants are registered in the Bow Corridor race on February 3! Register online at www.bcrr.ca. Race details will be put up on or around Monday, January 29 (distances for this classic, mass-start event). Registration on the day of the event is also possible... but please register early so the organizing committee can make sure they have enough bibs and volunteers!

January 22, 2007 - The news in this article in today's Globe and Mail is one of the biggest reasons we need Fast and Female. The ski day for girls is just the beginning of a nation-wide fitness movement. Let's get more phys ed time happening in the schools! -CC

"Is it time for examinations in physical fitness?" Physical education is being pushed aside despite growing concerns about childhood obesity...

January 22, 2007 - Only 13 more days until Fast and Female!! Check out this sweet countdown chart made by Annie Collins (click here), age 10 from BC! Way to rock out with enthusiasm, Annie, we can't wait to see you at Fast and Female 2007!

...Hello to all and thanks for visiting our site.

Final preparations continue with less than two weeks until Fast and Female 2007. The 12 Provincial Ambassadors have been hooked up with families to stay with here in Canmore for the weekend of the 3rd and 4th. Not to mention there's a fun mass start classic race on Saturday night happening in Canmore, so why not make a weekend of it? Most of your instructors will be out either racing or cheering at that Regional Race. Pre-registration is open at www.bcrr.ca. It's $10 if you pre-register and $15 if you wait 'till the day of.

Lots of fast females have been blazing around the trails here in Canmore as we are halfway through the World Championship trials.
Those who ski fast here will be selected to the Canadian team going to Worlds in Japan in February. I had a cold on the weekend and couldn't race, but I watched from the side as Fast and Female instructor Sara Daitch from Yellowknife ripped it up with her awesome double polling and won both days!

Meanwhile, my teammates Amanda Ammar and Periane Jones have been in Europe trying to get ready for the U23/World Junior Championships, but it's so hot in Europe this year that there is absolutely no snow and now the race has been postponed to sometime in March. That is brutal, but on the bright side, they may now be able to attend Fast and Female as superstar leaders, so stay tuned for more news on that.

I hope everyone is having fun in the snow wherever you are!

Ciao for now,
Chandra

January 16, 2007 – A message from Chandra Crawford!

…Hello F+F participants and supporters, We are less than 3 weeks from the 2007 Fast and Female Ski Day for Girls in Canmore, Alberta. I just got home from a long racing tour in Europe and I'm pumped to see tons of snow here, while Super Event Coordinator Magi has been organizing everything from sponsors to dance moves for the big day.

We apologize for the confusion around registration this year, and for the delay in releasing the participant list, and we assure you that things that process will be much smoother next time around. Thank-you for your patience, and congrats to everyone who got in. Please let us know if you can't make it so that we can give your spot to another fast female.

Thanks to everyone who applied for the subsidized travel to the event. 13 girls were chosen based on their answers to the question "What does being fast and female mean to you?" In selecting we looked for enthusiasm towards skiing and life because after the event these "fast and female ambassadors" are will be asked to bring their renewed energy back to their home provinces and make a small presentation at their club wind-ups about their trip. The commemorative DVD we're making should be helpful for that. Also, we're looking for local fast and female participants to volunteer as host families for these girls for the weekend of the 3rd and 4th. If you would like to have an awesome 14-16 year old stay with you, please contact cathyharris@shaw.ca

As for this website, we are still working out the kinks and hoping to get things like the comment board up and running, but it will probably take another couple weeks. In the meantime, now that I'm home there will be regular news updates right here for you.

Peace out,
Chandra
